On board of Mein Schiff 4, the newest TUI cruise liner, guests can discover over 6000 works of art while enjoying their journey. In the spring of 2015 Mirko Reisser (DAIM) already created an impressive work that extends across two floors in the Shore Ex and Bar area.

“The work invites the guests to discover it themselves. My art revolves around processes of construction and deconstruction of typography. By doing this I want to reach my limits and then overcome them. In this abstract work, the letters and fragments are slowly revealed to the beholder, but also certain references and connections can be discovered while studying the work. In this way I also create a link to the upper level, which I painted in rather light blue colours so that the connection to a sea cruise is made more obvious. The visitor is on a round trip on the vessel and he is also invited to experience this “round trip” in my work.”

In December 2015 he designed even more works on the pool deck of the ship.
“For the work on the pool deck it was my aim and simultaneously my greatest challenge to create a convincing overall design for the outdoor area that extends across two levels. The designed areas that are placed at different sites on the pool deck are supposed to upgrade the quality of the stay of the guests in this location without being the centre of attention or having an effect that is too dominant. The title of the work “Sea&Sun” implies the colours, that were chosen rather intensive, so that the sun shines on deck even if the sky is cloudy.”

Together with the experts of the art consultancy International Corporate Art (ICArt) TUI Cruises developed an individual art concept for the Mein Schiff 4. One part of the exhibited works were exclusively commissioned works, the other part was chosen and bought at galleries or from the artists directly. On all decks of the ship – for example in the restaurants, the spa area, the staircases or on the pool deck – the guests can explore different art works. The variety of the collection ranges from painting to sculptures and from installations and photography to video, graffiti and prints. Mirko Reisser (DAIM) represented by ReinkingProjekte in Hamburg and MaxWeberSixFriedrich Gallery in Munich can be seen on board next to artists such as Jorinde Voigt, Daniele Buetti, Jacob Gasteiger or Robert Lucander.
